Vintage Year is subtitled The 1947 Diaries of Jean St Leger Lawrence. In 1947 Jean Lawrence’s husband, Harry, was Minister of Justice in the Smuts government. The diaries cover the British royal tour (February-April), and the Lawrences’ subsequent visit to Canberra, Australia, for a Commonwealth Conference, and to New York, where Harry led the South African delegation at the United Nations.
