Play Based on Fred Khumalo’s Book to Go to London’s Royal Opera House

Following the news that PEN SA member Fred Khumalo’s novel Dancing the Death Drill had been made into a critically acclaimed play by the Isango Ensemble in collaboration with Nuffield Southampton Theatres in England, it has been announced that the play will transfer to London’s Royal Opera House next autumn.

SS Mendi: Dancing the Death Drill ran at Nuffield Southampton Theatres from 29 June to 14 July 2018. It received 5 star reviews from national from critics and standing ovations from audiences. [It] was commissioned by 14-18 NOW as part of the UK’s national arts programme for the First World War Centenary and the Repons Foundation.

SS Mendi: Dancing the Death Drill is at Royal Opera House, London from 18 April to 4 May 2019.
