Lauren Jacobs-Beukman wins the 2017 Desmond Tutu-Gerrit Brand Prize

Congratulations to PEN SA member Lauren Jacobs-Beukman who was awarded the 2017 Desmond Tutu-Gerrit Brand Prize in a ceremony held at Kronenberg Estate outside Paarl on 5 May. The award is given to the best Christian debut novel. Jacobs-Beukman’s novel Yehudit Chosen by God was published in 2016.

“The novel draws on the life of Yehudit or Judith, a woman whose stories are found in the apocryphal books of the Bible,” Ms Jacobs-Beukman told Bolander.

Jacobs-Beukman is currently working on her next book and has completed a film script for a faith-based film.
