Karin Brynard’s ‘Weeping Waters’ longlisted for International Dagger Award

Weeping Waters, the English translation of PEN SA member, Karin Brynard’s novel Plaasmoord, has been longlisted for this year’s prestigious Crime Writers’ Association (CWA) International Dagger.

Maya Fowler and Isobel Dixon – both also PEN SA members – were responsible for the translation.

The novel was published by Penguin Random House in 2014, after which British publisher Europa’s imprint World Noir bought the rights.

Plaasmoord was awarded the University of Johannesburg Debut Prize. Brynard has also since won two M-Net Prizes, as well as the ATKV Prize for prose.

Brynard earned her stripes as a journalist in the burning streets of Soweto during the Freedom Struggle of the eighties.

As a political correspondent for a nationwide newspaper, she witnessed the release of Nelson Mandela and the subsequent political settlement that ended apartheid.
