Henrietta Dax Recognised for Her Contribution to Bookselling in South Africa

PEN SA member Henrietta Dax was one of the four booksellers recognised for their Lifetime’s Contribution to Bookselling in South Africa at the Sefika Awards last night. The Book Lounge, PEN SA member and former Board Member Mervyn Sloman’s bookstore, once again took home the Best Trade Bookseller of the Year (Independent) award. Penguin Random House South Africa won Best Trade Publisher of the Year, which was accepted by the publishers’ Managing Director, PEN SA member Steve Connolly.

Congratulations to Dax, Sloman and Connolly!

The Booksellers’ Choice Award, which PEN SA member Zakes Mda was shortlisted for, went to Sally Andrew for her novel Recipes for Love and Murder.

The winners of the 2016 Sefika Awards and the Nielsen Booksellers’ Choice Award were announced at the Vineyard Conference Centre in Cape Town yesterday.

The awards take place annually to coincide with the SA Booksellers Association and Publishers’ Association of South Africa (PASA) annual general meeting, to “thank and celebrate both booksellers and publishers for the roles they play in promoting literacy and a culture of reading by producing and selling quality books in South Africa”.
