Fred Khumalo Shortlisted for 2018 Commonwealth Short Story Prize
24 May 2018
Congratulations to PEN SA member Fred Khumalo, whose story “Talk of the Town” has been shortlisted for the 2018 Commonwealth Short Story Prize.
Twenty-four outstanding stories have been selected by an international judging panel from 5182 entries from 48 Commonwealth countries. The writers come from 14 countries including, for the first time, Samoa and Ghana.
The shortlist also had another southern African on the list – namely South African Michelle Sacks for her story “Hitler Hates You”. The judging panel, made up of five writers from each region of the Commonwealth, this year included Damon Galgut.
The full shortlist and excerpts from the stories may be found here.
