PEN SA member Meg Vandermerwe is the 2016 editor for New Contrast, South Africa’s longest running literary magazine. The first issue Manifesto Edition is being launched at The Book Lounge. They will be selling 2016 subscriptions on the night. If you are a student (of any age) you are eligible for a 50% discount so just R175 for four issues delivered to your door. Please bring a valid student id. Everyone else will pay R350 for four issues delivered. Please bring cash on the night if you think you would like to subscribe as the New Contrast team will not have card facilities. You will however, be able to purchase individual copies from The Book Lounge with cash or plastic. PEN SA member Athol Williams will be one of the writers giving a reading.

Where: Madiba Banquet Hall, Potchefstroom

The theme of the inaugural Rutanang Book Fair is ‘Decolonising Literature’ and it coincides with the 100-year anniversary of Sol Plaatje’s revolutionary Native Life in South Africa. Author and Sol Plaatje scholar Sabata-Mpho Mokae will deliver a keynote address in celebration of Plaatje. PEN SA member Christine Coates will be speaking at the Fair.
