Writing in Response to the State Capture Crisis

Last week PEN South Africa Board Member Mark Heywood wrote about the state capture crisis and The Save South Africa campaign’s plans to address it. Heywood is a member of the campaign’s steering committee. He, along with PEN SA, called for writers to respond creatively to the crisis in the form of short essays, fiction or poetry.

Today, as the Save South Africa campaign holds a People’s Assembly Against State Capture, we are sharing a selection of the writing that was submitted:

An Exquisite Corpse” by Mark Winkler

Droëwaterval (on the Swartberg Pass)” by CJ Driver

The Marikana Symphony, the Marikana March” and Other Poems by Christine Coates

Msholozi” by Justin Fox

Save South Africa – Poems” by Athol Williams
