Sandra McGregor – ‘Onse Artist’ in District Six by Dolores Fleischer
01 Oct 2010
This book, a result of painstaking research, tells the poignant story of an unsung talent overlooked by main-stream South African art. From 1962 – 1979 Sandra worked amongst the people of District Six whom she grew to love and respect. The destruction of their lives with the demolition of the District had great impact on a sensitive artist. She recorded their world in remarkable and individual form.

Reviews: “…What makes Fleischer’s well-told story of the “un-known” McGregor poignant, is not affecting, corrective politics, but its very human-ness. The author connects art-works to people, both as its subjects and the indefatigable, diminutive woman who painted them. It’s a charming and enlightening read and great to look at.” – Melvyn Minnaar, Cape Times, 5.11.2010
