PEN SA Members Longlisted for the 2016 Sunday Times Literary Awards

The longlists for the 2016 Sunday Times Literary Awards have been announced. Congratulations to all the PEN SA members included on lists!

2016 Sunday Times Barry Ronge Fiction Prize

PEN SA Student Writing Prize judge Panashe Chigumadzi has been longlisted for her novel, Sweet Medicine, and PEN SA member Rustum Kozain is chairing the judges panel for the Fiction Prize. He had the following to say about the longlist: “Tender, lyrical narratives wistful and romantic, and narratives that come at you with the full blast of the digital-information age. There is seriousness and humour, light humour and black humour.”

2016 Sunday Times Alan Paton Award

PEN SA member Achmat Dangor is chairing the Non-Fiction Prize and said that “The books selected for consideration are those that are honest, do not hesitate to challenge power and convention, and are engaging enough to reach a broad general readership.”
