  • 2015 Prince Albert Leesfees
    Where: Various venues, Prince Albert, Great Karoo
    When: Wednesday 4 November to Sunday 8 November 2015
    Cost: Tickets to events range from R40 to R100, while the writing workshop costs R1 800
    The theme for this year’s festival is “In Search of Identity”.

  • Broken Monsters Charity Art Show
    Where: Harrington Street, Cape Town
    When: Thursday 12 November 2015, 6:30 PM to 9 PM
    The Broken Monsters Charity Art Show is an exhibition to launch Lauren Beukes’ latest book, Broken Monsters, and to raise funds for local children’s literacy charity: Book Dash. Over 120 local artists, designers, illustrators, architects and photographers have been invited to customise pages from the book in any way they please. These will then be sold for R1500 each with 100% of proceeds going to Book Dash. Sponsored and supported by Nandos.

  • Day of the Imprisoned Writer
    Where: Kalk Bay Books, Cape Town
    When: Monday 16 November 2015, 6 PM for 6:30 PM
    PEN South Africa and Kalk Bay Books invite you to an evening of rousing music, poetry and free speech to commemorate the International Day of the Imprisoned Writer.
    Join master of ceremonies Finuala Dowling as she hosts an event that will include award-winning writers Sindiwe Magona, Claire Robertson and Jim Pascual Agustin. Famous freedom songs will be performed by prizewinning songwriter and vocalist Emma Rycroft together with Nielan Prinsloo of the band Blacksmith.

    PEN SA members Kopano Matlwa and Lauren Beukes are two of the authors taking part in the TEDxJohannesburg event, which is themed “Moonshots”. Authors Alan Knott-Craig Jnr and Nakhane Touré will also be taking part.
