  • Arno Camenisch reads from Der Letzte Schnee (event in German)
    Where: Goethe-Institut Johannesburg, 119 Jan Smuts Avenue, Parkwood
    When: Tuesday 29 May 2018, 8 p.m.
    About: 40-year-old writer Arno Camenisch who publishes in German and Romansh is regarded as one of the most promising Swiss authors of his generation. His novels and stories have already been translated into over 20 languages. His just published novel “Der letzte Schnee” (The last snow) immediately jumped to No. 1 of the Swiss best-seller list. A specialty of the readings by Arno Camenisch is that he is accompanied by Roman Nowka on the guitar.

  • Green Man Flashing, a play by Mike van Graan
    Where: Auto and General Theatre on the Square, Nelson Mandela Square, Corner Sandton Drive and Rivonia Road, Sandton

    About: The Auto & General Theatre on the Square in Sandton will be presenting international award-winning South African playwright Mike van Graan’s brilliant play Green Man Flashing – a fast-paced political thriller written in a filmic style.

EXHIBITIONS

  • The Reading Room (Thenjiwe Niki Nkosi & Alphabet Zoo)
    Where: Goethe Institut Johannesburg, 119 Jan Smuts Avenue, Parkwood, Johannesburg
    When: Thursday 5 April 2018, 6:30 p.m.; exhibition open until 22 June.
    About: This project offers a sustained engagement with Thenjiwe Niki Nkosi’s body of work Heroes. Nkosi’s portraits are veiled – a function of technique, as well as her conception of what constitutes a “hero”. The faces shift between recognition and obscurity, and come to stand for a community.
