  • Symposium – Intersect: class, race, gender
    Where: UCT Hiddingh Campus, Cape Town

    Mandla Langa, Executive Vice-President of PEN SA, will be giving a keynote address and taking part in a discussion with author and editor Panashe Chigumadzi at Gordon Institute for Performing and Creative Arts (GIPCA)’s symposium on class, race and gender.

  • Jacana Media Masterclass with Fred Khumalo
    Where: Jacana Media, Auckland Park, Johannesburg
    When: Thursday 25 February, 5:30 PM for 6 PM
    Cost: R60 for students and pensioners, R100 for adults. This includes a copy of the author’s latest book.
    This is the first of Jacana Media’s creative writing Masterclass series.

  • I Turned Away and She Was Gone: Theatre and Discussion
    Where: Magnet Theatre, Observatory, Cape Town
    When: Thursday 25 February, 7 PM
    Cost: R130 with concessions for scholars, students, pensioners and groups of 10 or more at R65 a ticket
    On Thursday 25 February, Magnet Theatre hosts a special performance of I Turned Away and She Was Gone, featuring Jennie Reznek. Audience members will have the unique opportunity to share the insights and experiences of a panel of respected authors, artists, writers and storytellers, at a post-show discussion. PEN SA member Joonji Mdyogolo will be chairing the discussion, which will feature fellow PEN SA member Malika Ndlovu as well as Diana Ferrus, Ingrid Winterbach, Lara Foot, Marlene le Roux and Tina Schouw.

  • Launch of Best New African Poets anthology
    Where: Central Library, Cape Town
    When: Saturday 27 February, 2:15 PM
    The Best “New” African Poets 2015 Anthology, edited by Tendai R Mwanaka and Daniel da Purifacacao, will be launched at FOCAL’s Poetry Circle. The anthology features PEN SA members Christine Coates and Abigail George.

  • Reading and Discussion with Keorapetse Willie Kgositsile
    Where: Museum Africa, Newtown Cultural Precinct

    The Miriam Tlali Book Club is hosting a reading and discussion with National Poet Laureate and PEN SA member Keorapetse Willie Kgositsile. The theme of the event is “Celebration of Expressive Language and the 40th Anniversary of June 16”.
