Africa Lens by Justin Fox

Photographs from Getaway‘s archive have, over the years, worked their way into almost every media avenue. From billboards to television and from coffee-table books to commercials, they are embedded in the South African memory.
As with good travel writing, a successful photographic assignment is one in which the journalist has captured the genius loci – the spirit of the place. It’s often an indescribable and elusive element: a mood, a familiar scene rendered somehow unfamiliar, perhaps a fleeting moment where light and subject conspire in the viewfinder to give you something more. The pictures reproduced in this book are just such moments.
